Satiate your wanderlust with food around the world

Have you been cooking your favourite home-made dish with your grandma’s recipe during this lockdown? For most of us, we associate our local dishes with warm feelings and memories that tie us to our family. Every culture has its own unique food and culinary traditions, and these cuisines are passed down from generation to generation; they represent distinctive culture identity. We have complied a list of signature dishes around the world, so make sure to try these authentic food in their countries of origin when it is safe to travel again.

Tacos, Mexico

Tacos are a staple in Mexican food. It is made with a fresh, handmade
tortilla stuffed with small pieces of grilled beef or chicken, then topped
with diced cilantro, guacamole, salsa, and onions. It is also perfect for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Poke, Hawaii

This iconic Hawaiian raw fish salad is originated by local fishermen who were looking to use end pieces of their daily catch. Poke now turned into a colourful dish with tuna, salmon, carrots, cucumber, avocado, mayo, onion, pepper, lettuce, and seaweed.

Tom Yum Goong, Thailand

Tom Yum is a sour and spicy soup cooked in every Thai kitchen, with families differing in recipes passed down from generations. It often features shrimp, oyster, mushrooms, tomatoes, lime leaves, galangal and lemongrass, sometimes even with coconut milk and cream.

Laksa, Singapore

Laksa is found in every corner of Singapore, it is rich distinctive noodle soup with perfect balance of spice and coconut milk. Laksa is usually offered with shrimp, prawns, chicken, cockles and fishcakes.

Phở, Vietnam

Phở is considered a Vietnam national dish, it is tasty Vietnamese soup with broth, rice noodles, beef, chilli, lime and herbs. A steaming bowl of phở used to be Vietnamese breakfast, now, it can be found in street carts throughout the night.

Churros, Spain

Churros are popular Spanish street snack made from fried dough pastry, cut into sausage shape, and doused in sugar or dipped into hot chocolate sauce. Locals in Spain often start the day with this comfort food delight.

Macaron, France

Macaron is colourful, pillowy and delicately flavoured, no doubt the best-selling pastry in France. It is a sweet meringue based confection made with flour and buttercream filling. This delicate sweet comes with a variety of flavours, my favourites are salted caramel, chocolate and earl grey tea.

Gelato, Italy

Gelato is similar but not really the same as ice-cream, it has a lower percentage of fat and 70% less air, giving it density and a richer texture. Gelato is made daily by artisans, it is usually made with a base of 3.25% milk, sugar and natural flavouring.
